In large pan, sauté garlic in butter over medium heat for 2 minutes.
Stir in onions and continue cooking over medium-high heat until tender, about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add brown sugar and walnuts; cook and stir just until sugar melts. Remove from heat.
Add cheese and stir just to combine.
To serve, portion ½ cup onion mixture over cooked pasta or over steamed vegetables.
